Alanya Castle could receive status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

In September, UNESCO committee will visit Alanya to decide whether the 2,000-year-old castle of Alanya should get the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

With regard to the preservation of this status, the imposing historical castle has been restored and converted into an open-air museum. The city hopes that this historic treasure is finally given a place on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For this opportunity, a lot of work has been done. Already more than ten years ago initial work on the historic castle has begun. In the past two years, the restoration has been intensified. The famous castle of Alanya exhibit alongside Hellenistic and Roman also Seljuk and Ottoman feature. In particular, the Seljuk architecture has influenced the castle significantly. The famous Red Tower of Alanya goes back to the time of the Conqueror Seljuk Aladdin Keykubat.
