Changes in the definition of European driving licenses

You have decided to spend most of the year in Turkey? Then you have to remember to possess in addition to a valid residence permit a valid driver’s license. The European driving license is valid for only 6 months after entering in Turkey (this also applies to international). Therefore, the driving license must be rewritten.

The transfer takes place at the traffic police in Alanya. The office of the traffic police is in the same building as the foreigners’ police. To paraphrase, you need 6 passport photos and a Turkish and notarized translation of your driver’s license. A vision test is required as well as the blood group determination by a hospital or an independent laboratory. The cost for the transfer to the police amounted to EUR 250. If everything is done, you go with all papers to the traffic police. They will take your fingerprints. This is routine for all persons who are getting a driving license.

Starting this year, there is a small change. After applying for the transfer of the license, the traffic police need to get a confirmation that you are still in possession of your license from the traffic department in your country. Therefore, the waiting time increases unfortunately.
